Paul the boat enthusiast
My passion for boating ignited at an early age, from water skiing at 8 to disassembling outboard motors by 10. When I was introduced to boat racing at 13 at the wonderfully friendly Lancashire Power Boat Racing Club, I rapidly progressed through national and international competitions, achieving notable success in Formula 3 with multiple World Championship race wins and two world speed records.

Relocating to the Lake District at 28, I embraced grassroots club racing at Windermere Motor Boat Racing Club, which deepened my connection to the sport. It holds a special place in my heart—the community and commitment, the history, and the sportsmanship all resonate deeply with me. Repairing, rigging and racing all manner of boats became a passion into which my past experience could be harnessed.

The global lockdown in 2020 provided the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream: building my first boat, the Phantom 16. This pivotal moment led to the founding of Simia Marine, where I now merge my lifelong passion with professional expertise. Each project I undertake reflects my dedication to boating, from racing to restoring and refitting vessels.
George Hughes, Windermere
I bought my Phantom 16 from Simia Marine at the start of the 2024 race season, and right out of the box, it was everything I wanted and more. The boat is lightweight, well-balanced, and handles like it's on rails. However, what really stands out for me is the after-sales service. Paul, with all his racing knowledge, has always been available to answer any questions I’ve had about the boat’s setup, and as a result, I cannot recommend him highly enough.
